I have dropped my phone many times with this case. Recently I even threw it 50ft and it hit a tree in the process. I found the phone and expected it to be broken but nothing happened to it. Awesome case I defiantly recommend it if you drop your phone more than you want to.

Ultimate Protection - Ultimate Peace of Mind!

Pros: Makes your phone virtually indestructable. Preserves the Brand New condition and value of your phone.
Cons: (Not REAL Cons): Not the easiest case to remove. Adds a some bulk & weight.

This is my second Otterbox Defender, having had one for my previous iPhone 3Gs.

What I LOVE about the defender cases is that you actually enjoy your phone more (as ridiculous as that may sound) because you can completely stop worrying about damaging your expensive phone a month into a two year contract! You can even enjoy your phone by taking your frustrations out on it after an abusive phone call! In fact, short of strapping explosives to it, dropping it in acid or in a volcano (I would recommend you dont do any of those things), the case makes the phone indestructible. Just look up "Otterbox Defender Drop Test" on Youtube! If you use the enclosed keyboard membrane (I have, and it fits and operates really well) then every single part of the phone, other than the track pad, is protected, including all the switches and ports, so dust aint going nowhere! I ordered the case before my Bold 9700 arrived, so the case was ready and waiting to entomb and mummify the phone when it arrived, so when I take the phone out of the case at the end of my contract, it will be as new as the day I put it in, thus considerably adding to the resale value of the phone.

Con-wise, yes it makes the phone a bit bulkier and heavier, but thats the (small) price you pay the level of protection is more than proportional to the increases, and besides, the bulkiness along with the latex cover over the hard-plastic shell makes it easier to grip and less likely to drop. No, the case doesnt make the phone waterproof, but it does make it does provide some showerproof protection. Otterbox do make a waterproof case but it makes the phone prohibitively huge! And finally, yes, its a bit of a pig to take off, so download Quickpull and upgrade your Micro SD card before you put the case on, and you shouldnt have any reason to take it off again.

In a nutshell: THE best 9700 case there is.

Pros: Great Protection
Cons: a little on the Bulky side

This is a great investment, I am glade that I made it since I have had the otterbox I have dropped my phone on several occassion on the concreate and did have to worry about it breaking or not working. I just wish it wasnt so heavy or bulky

Pros: Dont have to worry about dropping your 450 dollar cell !!
Cons: None that I know of.

I have had the Blackberry 7000 series, 8100 Pearl and the 8300 Curve and now the 9700 Bold. I have had a few cases and after scratching the hell out of Curve I swore I would spend the extra money and get the Otterbox. I am happy to say that this case is a tank, I also find it much easier to hold without worry of it slipping out of my hands.

I have the OtterBox Defender on my Bold 9700. I have used OtterBox for years w/ other BB devices so it was a no brainer that I would get it for the 9700. It provides great protection and my phone always looks and functions like brand new when removed from case. The only problem I see is that it only comes in Black, and upon emailing OB they stated that they have no plans on making them in any other colors for newer BB devices at this time. I would love to have a pink silicone sleeve to go over the case, just something to make it more girly for me.
