creaking sound, scratch the bottom bezel!!
User: michael robert, Jan 13, 2011
Pros: sturdy back protector, no screen protector
Cons: top cover easily pops off, creaking sounds
I had this one in hurry after buying the torch in Jakarta, attracted with Otterbox reputation, bought it and tried it right away. After 2 weeks of use, the top cover pops when i drop my phone on the carpet (+/- 5 cm high), lucky the phone was not damaged or scratched but when i put it on again, the top cover creaked whenever call or trackpad buttons were pressed.
Now im planning to replace it with another brand (still looking though), it was enough for me when i realized on week 3, the bottom bezel got scratches. i suspect the top lid as the root cause for this problem.
Its up to you to buy this stuff or not. i had enough and feel very dissapointed after 3 weeks of usage.

Looks great, but falls short
User: Jen I., Oct 29, 2010
First day of release I walked out of the store with 2 new torches, a week later those torches had cases (had to wait for them to arrive at the store). The cases fit great, they look great, but from the first time I saw it I had a problem with out flimsy the top piece looks. Shortly after purchase, the first case (black - for differentiation), had the top part break when it fell out of a pocket onto a carpeted floor. One fall and it was done for? My case (pink) met its fate a couple days later when I answered my phone by opening it and the top piece flew off. So, answering the phone is dangerous to the cases health? I took both cases back to the store and they were easily exchanged for new ones. Again, the top part of this second case broke when it fell one time out of my purse. Will never buy another Otter, or suggest an Otter to anyone. To be fair, the back part (with the rubber padding) is solid and protects well. It is the top part that is flimsy and needs work.

Nice Looking case with a BIG flaw, it doesnt protect the phone if you drop it.
User: Andres Tinoco, Aug 26, 2010
Pros: I like the look of the case, it offers great protection while the phone its in the case
Cons: the case falls apart on the slightest impact, so your phone WILL get scratched if you drop it (just like mine just did)
This case has a nice look, and the materials are strong, I like the silicone and hard plastic mix, Ive owned several otterbox products and I thought they were the ultimate protection until this version.
the bad news are: They NEED to revise this case and find a way to have the top cover stay in place on impact, it falls apart too easy. the top part of the case WILL FALL APART if you drop it, its very loose, so otterbox its NOT the ultimate protection this time.. time to look for another case, If you are reading this and considering purchasing this case, dont waste your money unless you see proof that there has been a revision to this case.
I was also disappointed that the case didnt come with a screen protector, all my other otterbox cases came with one, so I was kinda expecting one since this is a touch screen phone.
I was a fan of otterbox, but this flaw its too big to ignore, how can they ship a product like this? this is a design flaw that should be evident on ANY quality test.
I guess all these 5 start ratings are from people that have not dropped their phone yet, since this phone just came out, they will feel like me when they do..

First OtterBox, but not impressed
User: Chris A, Aug 16, 2010
Pros: Protection for expensive phone, available the first day
Cons: Poor fit, seems to cause issues with the slide and locking the phone
Ive been around OtterBoxes for a while now. It seems every coworker has one for their insert version of iPhone here. I was fairly impressed at the level of protection offered. When I bought the case for my shiny new Torch, maybe my expectations were too high. The back of the case went on with no problem, although the silicone plugs dont seem to fit properly over the ports. The front trim ring around the screen..needs to go back to the drawing board. It doesnt fit well, and seems to come off easily. Ive had issues with putting the phone in a holder, and it seems as though it wakes right back up, killing my battery life. Before I added the case, I dont recall that problem. It would lock and stay locked. I dont know if the bulk of the case makes it easier for the slide to catch, moving a little bit and unlocking the phone or exactly whats happening.

Not worth the $40 I paid for it

Pros: very durable
Cons: locks the torch when slider closes
I thought I had something wrong with my torch and was a step from sending back to AT&T, when I decided to try something after reading this forum and found how someone else had this same problem. The Torch "lock" when you close it if you have the OB commuter case on. I had the pink and black that I got from AT&T online when I ordered my phone I got the OB because my hubby has the iPhone and he LOVES that OB case! I thought it was a good investment for my phone since this was the first one I had bought myself in 2 years, and I LOVE BBs! So I put it on, no prob, take it to work. Using it during the day noted that the lock would NOT stay off! Even when I was handling the phone casually, it was locking, not just when the slider was closed after being opened. Got on chat w/ AT&T they said bring it back, then got to looking online and typed in "torch locking when slider closes" and low and behold! Someone complained about the exact same thing! I am going for a different case, probably the Seidio Innocase, it has nothing but 5 stars on its reviews. Wish I had looked at it before spending $40!! Dont waste the money, the OB may be great w/ ANY other phone, but with the Torch? Uh uh, no good.

Very disappointed
User: Kerry Summers, Nov 18, 2010
Pros: Nice, hard shell
Cons: Face falls off, not durable
I bought the Commuter case for my Torch because Otterbox is a pretty reputable name. After dropping it the first time from about a foot off the ground, I quickly realized that the front face was not made to actually stick to the phone. Granted, it takes a tricky design to get the face to fit to the Torch, but it is DEFINITELY possible (and for over $32, it should perform better. I got tired of the front face coming off so I got superglue and glued it to the underside of the face. As ghetto as that sounds, it actually did work and everything was great..until..the other day I pulled the phone out of my pocket and the plastic band around the faceplate was BROKEN! I have only dropped the phone a couple times, but seriously, I paid $32 bucks for a HARD COVER! Very disappointed. Im having to go with something else now. Good luck, guys!

thank goodness it has a lifetime warranty!

Pros: protects the main body securely and through everything
Cons: the frame piece falls off with a good hit
I purchased one of these and felt a need that everyone should know whats happened to me since purchase. Mind you, ive purchased otterboxes for ALL of my previously owned blackberries and loved them. This one is an exception.
Thus far the top frame portion to the case has been replaced twice (through a limited warranty with AT&T) in less than a month.
Im not overtly rough with my bbs. Im a student and juggle quite a few things at the same time so its quite possible I could be carrying a dr. pepper, spiral notebook, a pen, and grab my phone when it falls.
It never breaks the frame portion of the commuter case in half but it has resulted in breakage of the top portion of the clip. On impact the frame portion of the case pops off everytime if its a hard surface and has resulted in several scratches on my phone.
FYI: If youve purchased this through AT&T and its a scratch that your nail falls into, your warranty is void. They will not replace the phone for warranty even if your speaker goes out, volume keys dont work, or a plethora of other reasons a device could be faulty.
So, now that this case has done this be aware that you could suffer from the same situation and that you risk quite a bit, a very expensive phone. This is fare warning to not put too much security in the otterbox name with this particular case, I did and it was a huge mistake. If youve purchased past devices carried through AT&T and bought otterbox to keep your phone secure, this isnt going to give you the same sort of durability.
