I am very satisfied with this charger. Sadly, I put off buying it because of the neg ratings. I wouldnt want to be ham handed with it but I consider it to be well built and a super value at Crackberrys price.

For the next generation of this item, Mobi should consider designing the unit so that both the Blackberry smartphone and the spare battery can be charged by AC power OR USB. Not sure why AC only for spare battery and USB only for teh Blackberry.

Cheaply made, poor design

Pros: Charges a battery or the 9800 / 9810
Cons: You need to connect the TWO sources separately. The USB cable (permanently attached) goes to the BB. The micro USB female connector goes to the battery.

This is a generic product made in China. Not that I have anything against China, but I was expecting to see a "Mobi" branded device if this was above $20.

Detailed cons:
1. The cradle for the 9800 / 9810 is poorly designed:
- Theres no guides or "rails" or anything to guide you when yourre placing the phone on the cradle, so youll have to fiddle with it and risk scratching the side of the phone with the micro USB male plug.
- The plug itself is placed too far (to the back). This causes some pressure on the plug (and the phones plug as well) and difficults inserting the phone.
- The material feels like very cheap plastic.
Im comparing this all the way with the RIM cradle charger for the phone, which is very, very good, with side "rails" that guide the phone to the plug, a nice shiny black & metallic finish and a nice heft to it.

2. Will it charge the battery correctly? I just dont know. I want to believe it wont over-charge the battery or something.. but with this thing Ive just got no idea.
The battery just sits on the charging slot and you have to rest it on a plastic strap. To remove the battery, youll have to pull the strap to lift the top of the battery. The way I see it, this could potentially collect dust and damage the terminals.

3. The battery and the phone cradle are connected to SEPARATE power sources.
- A USB cable that is permanently attached goes only to the phone cradle. It can be connected to a USB wall charger or to the computer. When its connected it will light a bright BLUE led on the right of the cradle (if seen from the front).
- A micro USB slot accepts a charger plug (included). This one powers the battery only. This will turn on a green LED if no battery is present, or a red one when its charging a battery (I bet the led turns green when the battery is fully charged).
So, if you want to connect and charge both the phone and the spare battery, you will end up needing two power sources.. not one.
This defeats the purpose of having a device designed for charging two things at one.

4. THERE IS NO MANUAL, SO THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT IS BY TRIAL AND ERROR.

Final considerations:
1. More information should be available for the purchaser.
2. I dont believe theres enough value for the price I paid (over $20 plus S&H).
Theres not enough value because I wont be using the cradle to charge my 9810 because I dont want to risk breaking my phones plug. Thus, I will only use it to charge the battery (and I feel its a risk too).

Had the cradle been more cleverly designed to fit the phone and had the power source option been different, this could have been a good product.

My device broke within one week. It is nice to have an external charging device for an extra battery but the contacts on my device broke within a week. This is very cheaply made and I wouldnt buy it again. I also dont know why they have a seperate wire that you have to plug into the side of your phone to charge the phone. It should be that you just place your phone in the cradle and then place your extra battery in the back slot. This is a very poor design.
